If you're writing about the app, please say which computer you use (Mac or Windows) and, for a phone or tablet, its model, and what you did, what you expected and what happened. Please don't send your data files or any keys or passwords: we'll never ask for them.

Questions

What is TimeWrights?

A private workshop for watch collectors, hobby watchmakers and builders: guides and step-by-step jobs, the Movement Explorer with 400 calibres, your own records, and help finding watches, parts and tools. The product page shows each part.

Which computers, phones and tablets does it run on?

TimeWrights runs on Mac and Windows computers. The apps for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets are companions to the computer app, for use at the bench: each pairs with your computer and keeps a copy of your records with you. The computer app is the whole workshop; the phone and tablet apps aren't meant to replace it.

When can I get it?

Release details will be announced here.

How much will it cost?

The price will be announced here with the release details.

Do I need an account?

No. TimeWrights has no accounts. You don't sign in to use it, on the computer, phone or tablet.

Where are my records kept?

On your own devices, not ours.

  • On your computer, everything is in one database file in TimeWrights' data folder, with daily backups beside it (the newest 14 are kept).
  • On your phone or tablet, the app keeps its own copy, so it works at the bench with no network.
  • Between them, a phone or tablet syncs only with the computer it's paired with, over your own Wi-Fi. Every message between them is encrypted with a key only those two devices share. It doesn't go through the internet or through us.
  • Moving to a new computer happens only when you make a transfer package, encrypted with a passphrase you choose, which isn't kept anywhere.

We recommend turning on your computer's disk encryption (FileVault on a Mac, BitLocker on Windows): it protects your records along with everything else on the disk.

Does TimeWrights collect anything about me?

No. The apps have no analytics, and nothing you keep in them is sent to us or anyone else. What does go out from the computer: the searches you run, to the sites TimeWrights reads listings from; a request for currency exchange rates; and, once a month, a check that the links TimeWrights shows to other sites still work. None of these carries your records. If you use eBay listings, your eBay keys stay on your computer and are sent only to eBay. The privacy page covers this website.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a record in the app, or remove the app and its data folder to remove all of it. We have no copy: there's no account, and your records aren't sent to us.

Where does the information about movements come from?

From the makers' own technical documents wherever they're published, and from independent references where they aren't. Each calibre's page in the app names its sources. Where something is general practice or TimeWrights' own judgement, it says so.

I've found something wrong or missing.

Please tell us what, and where you read it (the maker's document, a book, a page), at support@timewrights.com. Every correction is checked against its source before it goes in.
